Olivia Winslow, an author from the Newsday Newspaper, writes highly about the newly revitalized Long Island Jewish Medical Center. The $300 million expansion project- the largest in the North Shore-LIJ Health System's history – is not just a physical transformation, but one that ushers in a "new philosophy of care," officials said yesterday.

The 10-story glass tower containing 162 single-bed rooms with "hotel-like accommodations" transforms the appearance of the hospital, which straddles the Nassau County and Queens border in New Hyde Park, officials said. The new addition, whose construction began in 2008, is scheduled to open to the public next month.

The Inpatient Tower addition at the LIJ Medical Center also includes the Zuckerberg Pavilion and Katz Women's Hospital. In total the $300 million expansion will be 10 stories, 300,000 square feet, 162 private rooms featuring private refrigerator, bath, flat-screen TV and a safe. Not to mention that every patient receives a "food ambassador" to customize meals for them.

Michael Dowling, president and chief executive of the North-Shore-LIJ system, said during the introduction ceremony: "What you're looking at is not just a new, magnificent building. What you're actually looking at is a new philosophy of care…It represent a new way to welcome families, patients and members of the community". Long term patients of North Shore-LIJ acknowledge the enhancements made to the building towards patient care and are truly grateful. Patient, Cheryl Lampasona of Mineola, said during the ceremony, "I am so honored to be standing in front of you, healthy and with my beautiful family", because of North Shore- LIJ's customized approach to patient care.
