College students are increasingly receiving class projects that include real life collaborative efforts, to help assist them in their transition into the real world. Because of this, students rely on spaces to work diligently and cooperatively. Campuses are putting in their effort to support out of classroom learning regardless of lack of space. The key is portability, and campuses are making casual spaces count. Spaces like touch-down kiosks, booths, tables, stackable chairs, have already made a huge difference in student’s learning experience. Maintaining their commitment to Continuing Education Seminars, DS&D and ThermoFisher Scientific teamed up to plan and present three AIA seminars on a three day tour through Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York City. The three seminars touched on Casework, LEED & Sustainability standards and finally Fume Hoods with guest speakers from ThermoFisher Scientific who traveled from Twin Rivers, WI. The daily schedule ran from 10am in the morning to around 4:30pm in the afternoon.
Many prominent and high-profile architects, architectural firms and organizations attended the event in all or one of the three cities the Labfest event took place. Overall, each seminar drew an average turnout of 24-30 people. The 2010 October Labfest was a HUGE success both in the invaluable information presented by the guest speakers, but even more so in the respective attendance and participation of the tri-state architectural community. DS&D would like to thank Jon Zboralski, Denis Coons, and Rick Johnson of ThermoFisher Scientific in their efforts to educate and volunteer their time for the CEU initiative.
In case you missed the event or would like copies of the presentations, DS&D has uploaded all three presentations below for the architectural community to review. We look forward to the 2011 October DS&D Labfest as we again aim to create an active educational atmosphere in the markets we serve.
