After touring a successful pilot at a middle school in Fairfax County, the Principal at James Madison High School reached out to dancker to work on their new library and classroom addition. The completed project provides approximately 64,000 SF of new space.

Designed to support fluid transitions among multiple teaching and learning modes, the new library was intentionally designed to facilitate social learning by planning spaces where students can easily connect and collaborate. It provides settings for lectures, team projects, and peer to peer learning.

The new library features a variety of space types, including- a maker space, areas for individual focused work as well as brainstorming rooms, group work, quiet reading, group collaboration and lounging as well as a new teacher’s workroom.The new addition also provides new science classroom and labs.
