NeoCon and Design Days 2026 made one thing unmistakably clear: the future of workplace design is deeply human. From acoustic sanctuaries to modular systems built for change, this year’s shows celebrated environments that truly work for the people inside them, thoughtfully designed for comfort, belonging, and meaningful experience.

NeoCon returned to the Merchandise Mart in Chicago alongside Fulton Market Design Days, and together they delivered a message that felt both exciting and deeply considered. The most compelling interiors are the ones that make you feel something the moment you walk in. This year’s shows built beautifully on the industry’s long commitment to great design while adding new layers of intentionality around how spaces support the people inside them day in and day out.

As dancker’s team moved through showrooms across the Mart and Fulton Market venues, several clear themes rose to the surface. There is a cohesive set of priorities that manufacturers large and small are embracing with real energy and creativity. In case you couldn’t make it to Chicago, here’s our recap of the trends, products, and ideas that defined NeoCon and Design Days 2026.

Design Trends that are Leading the Conversation

Wellbeing as the New Benchmark

Manufacture Spotlight: Turf

If there was one overarching theme that tied NeoCon and Design Days 2026 together, it was this: wellbeing has grown into a rich, multi-layered design objective that influences how people feel, perform, connect, and recover across the workday. The showrooms that resonated most were the ones that articulated a clear vision for human comfort and belonging at every touchpoint, with spaces that are as purposeful as they are beautiful.

Cognitive wellbeing drove conversations about acoustic privacy, visual calm, and thoughtful zoning that gives people places to focus, retreat, and reset within otherwise busy environments. Emotional wellbeing showed up in warmer material palettes, softer furniture forms, and biophilic elements that create spaces that feel genuinely inviting. User autonomy, which means giving people real control over their light, their posture, and their space, has become a celebrated design value woven throughout product development.

Nature-Inspired Environments

Manufacture Spotlight: Venue Industries

Biophilic design moved out of the accent role this year and into the structural conversation. Natural palettes, including earthy neutrals, warmed-down jewel tones, and sun-baked terracottas, defined showroom after showroom. These were complemented by authentic textures in wood, stone, and woven fiber that added depth without demanding attention.

Furniture is now being conceived with greenery integration in mind from the start. Planters built into workstation dividers, living wall adjacent lounge clusters, and nature-inspired silhouettes in seating all work together to blur the line between the fabricated and the grown. The result is a built environment that promotes wellbeing through the quiet reassurance of the natural world.

Shape Simplicity

Manufacture Spotlight: Andreu World

The furniture forms that drew the most attention at NeoCon and Design Days 2026 were both sculptural and deeply considered. A wave of simplified, organically inspired profiles is energizing product design. These include curves that feel inevitable rather than decorative, monolithic shapes that double as artistic objects, and fluid geometries that encourage varied postures and interactions throughout the day.

This design direction also brings practical advantages. Streamlined forms translate into more efficient manufacturing, easier assembly, and greater reconfigurability over time. Modular systems extend this idea further, allowing spaces to be rearranged and expanded with ease. The best pieces feel like they belong anywhere and adapt gracefully when needed.

User Control

Manufacture Spotlight: KI

This year’s showrooms reflected a growing conviction that great product design adapts to people. Height adjustable features continue to expand in range and precision, and user control now extends well beyond posture. Intuitive lighting controls, configurable work modes, and task-specific settings are being built directly into product design and are seamlessly integrated so they feel natural from day one.

What makes this trend compelling is the emphasis on reducing friction. The most effective controls are the ones you can use without thinking, allowing your environment to shift with your needs without interrupting your flow. Personal space is now truly personal.

Sound Conscious Design

Manufacture Spotlight: Borgo

As open-plan environments continue to thrive, acoustic privacy has become one of the most energizing areas of furniture innovation. NeoCon and Design Days 2026 showcased just how far the industry has come. High-backed soft seating, acoustic pods, and privacy booths were beautifully executed, creating micro environments within larger floor plans where people can focus, recover, or think without interruption.

Sound management is increasingly being woven into standard product categories. Workstations, lounge pieces, and dining-height seating are now designed with acoustic performance in mind. This makes thoughtful acoustic design accessible across a wide range of product types and budgets.

Sustainable Materials

Manufacture Spotlight: Mayer Fabrics

The sustainability conversation at NeoCon and Design Days 2026 reflected a deep and ongoing commitment across the industry. Manufacturers are presenting sophisticated circular design thinking, from recycled inputs to end-of-life disassembly plans built directly into product architecture.

Material innovation continues to play a key role. New surface treatments and finishes are extending product lifespans and simplifying maintenance. This reduces environmental impact and long-term ownership costs. The most thoughtful products are designed to last and designed to be reused when their first life is complete.

Six Product Directions Worth Watching

Beyond the broader themes, six specific product trends stood out across NeoCon and Design Days. Each reflects how people use and experience space today.

Color Infusion

Bases, frames, and structural elements are stepping into the spotlight via warm metals, wood accents, and bold color applications that add depth and character.

Modularity

Modular systems are becoming the new standard, designed to be reconfigured, expanded, or repurposed without full replacement as organizational needs evolve.

Wood Detail

Natural wood accents are appearing in unexpected places such as chair frames, upholstered legs, and back panels bringing warmth and connection at every touch point.

Lightweight Aesthetic

Slender profiles, thin metal legs, and streamlined structures create a sense of openness without overwhelming the space.

Playful Integration

Convertible conference and game tables, pet-friendly accommodations, and built-in social elements embed moments of play and connection into everyday work environments.

Active Lounge

Lounge seating now supports both relaxation and productivity through integrated work surfaces, lighting, and power access.
