Honoring Those Who Still Serve: Supporting Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania

Body

After serving six years in the United States Marine Corps, Mike Bistline, Vice President at dancker, learned that some of the hardest battles aren’t fought overseas—they begin when the uniform comes off.

The transition from military to civilian life can be deeply personal and, at times, isolating. The loss of structure, camaraderie, and shared mission leaves many veterans searching for a renewed sense of purpose. Unfortunately, that struggle can lead some down difficult paths, including homelessness and addiction.

That’s why Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania (VOPA) holds such a special place in Mike’s heart. Their mission goes far beyond providing shelter — they build community. Through a therapeutic rehabilitation model, mentorship, counseling, and job readiness programs, VOPA empowers homeless veterans to rebuild their lives with dignity, purpose, and pride.

“They see the humanity in every veteran, no matter their circumstance,” Mike shares. “As someone who has worn the uniform and faced the challenges that follow service, I know firsthand how vital this kind of support is. The journey back to belonging isn’t easy, but organizations like VOPA remind us that no veteran should have to walk that road alone.”

At dancker, we’re proud to stand behind this mission. Our Pennsylvania team had the privilege of helping furnish VOPA’s facility — a community designed to restore hope and connection for those who once served our country. In addition, our team continues to collect essential items to support homeless veterans and others in need throughout the Harrisburg area.

To the entire VOPA community: thank you for your unwavering dedication and belief in second chances. You embody what it truly means to serve.

VOPA and the community have come together to construct a village of 15 tiny homes surrounding a community center for Veterans experiencing homelessness.

This unique concept is specially designed to meet the specific needs of each Veteran.

A calm setting, close to transportation and service providers, along with the camaraderie of their brothers and sisters in arms, are significant components of the Veteran’s healing process.

Veterans Grove has embraced an evidence-based approach called the Therapeutic Community model, which involves more intensive engagement, an extended duration of care, and peer-to-peer support to help veterans transcend long-standing challenges.
